Forgive & Forget

Many of us have experienced some kind of abuse, back stabbing, harsh words, embarrassment, and etc from others. The actions from our closest friends or family seem to haunt us. The thought, “How can they do that to me?” crosses our minds sometimes every day.Trying to deal with that pain and the thoughts of not being worthy, Not being accepted, Not being good enough. In spite of all that happened, we understand and know that we must forgive. As Jesus stated…

Matthew 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

So dealing with all of those emotions, it seems at times we have triggers that bring up the thoughts of what happened. We hear those that love us or are friends make the statement, “Forgive and Forget”. I am sorry, but we can forgive.. but what about this forget? Paul said this..

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

apprehended means to obtain, to seize, take possession of, to detect, catch, to lay hold of with my mind.

So in other words, when you have a dream, a vision, direction of where you want to go. And you pursue it. It is in THOSE moments, you are able to forget those thing which are behind. WHY? Because you are reaching for those goals! Those Dreams! Those Visions! That is the ONLY way to forget. If you have NOTHING to reach for, then you will always remember and stay in the pig pen. Making mud pies with your memories and going no where.
