My name is Daniel Davis, I was born in Georgia where my parents were in the United Pentecostal Church in Portadale. Growing up in the church I saw many things. Things that I disagreed with and things that I did not understand. My father, being a contractor and minister, he would offer his services to help build houses, remodel them, and even build churches.
Many years later, I find myself walking into a funeral home passing by people that I knew, family members in the distance weeping and crying, others talking and laughing. But walking to the front of the room, I walked up to the casket laying there in front of me and looking over, I see a man that taught me life. A man that taught me about God. Yes there were many things he did not teach me, or if he did, I was not paying close attention. Here lays a man that taught me what it means to give his life for the kingdom of God. My father.
Even though there were flaws that I had seen in my father and mother, they were still my parents and through the years I learned that we have to over look their mistakes and love them anyhow. I can tell you that my dad was a stern man. One that would put the fear of God inside of you if you were misbehaving, But looking back I can truly say, I needed it. I needed someone teach me to become the man that I am today.
My mother and father have left this walk of live, but their lessons they taught me are still embedded in my heart. And I thank God they showed me the way. The truth in the word of God. The example of how to live. And the importance of reaching souls for the kingdom of God. And how to love and pray for people that hurt you. No matter if they are family, friends, or enemies.
