Replaced by Fashion

Many times while reading the word of God, we seem to run into words that we have to run and look up. Wanting to make sure we understand the full meaning of the word in the scripture. On an occasion there are words that the meanings change your whole outlook on the scripture context. But this time, I understood the verse, but the word stuck out in my mind.

“….We never saw it on this fashion.” Mark 2:12

When reading this verse, I looked at the word “fashion” and thought about clothes. Knowing that all around us, there are so many people talking about or trying to look at the fashion that is currently going on. There are new styles of clothing that are designed and sold everyday. I have even recently saw some fashion clothes that I thought were way out there. The reason why I brought this up, is because not only did that word stand out for me, but it caused me to think about the children of Israel. Let me explain.

“Take ye from among you an offering unto the Lord: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the Lord; gold, and silver, and brass, And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,” Exodus 35:5-6

So where did they get these items? The blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen? They were gathered by the direction of Joseph for Pharaoh in the time of the famine. And God allowed this to happen to give it all to the children of Israel as they walked out of Egypt.

“And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:” Exodus 12:35

So the items that was given to them were “FINE”. All of the wealth of the known word brought their things to Egypt to trade for food as the people were in a famine. Because of this, God allowed them to be turned over to the children of Israel as they walked out towards the promise land. So they had the finest of garments. They had the fashions. They had the nice suits, the stylish dresses, the nice scarfs, the stand out neck ties, the styling shoes, with the hip socks to match. In other words, they had the best money could buy at that time. And yet here is the kicker. They had all of that and wanted to go back to Egypt to be slaves again.

Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” Exodus 14:12

SO many people come to church wearing their best. Looking sharp. Coming to church with an empty heart and leaving the same way, not being changed. Just because you have nice clothes and they are in fashion, just because you have a nice car and it is the latest, does not mean that you have a relationship with God.

Wonder how God felt about this?

Having fashion yet no relationship with God.

Desiring to go back into slavery?

The blessings of the Lord is great, but you want to stay in bondage?
