The Heart of God

One evening I was doing some Bible studying. While reading in 1 Samuel about King Saul and King David. Something just really stuck out in me reading time.

“But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.” 1 Samuel 13:14

The Lord spoke and stated to King Saul, that he sought him a man after his own heart. Then reading a few other scriptures, and even one from the New Testament.

“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.” Acts 13:22

Upon pondering these things in my heart, I begin to think about it. Out of all the people in the scripture. Out of all the prophets, out of all the Apostles.. No one has had a statement like that. What statement am I talking about? “David, a man after mine own heart.” Wow!! What a statement!!

Remembering all of the messages I have heard about how that “King David was a man after the heart of God.” This would make one think that he was seeking after God on a grand scale. So in my prayer before the Lord I stated, “God, show me how that David became a man after your own heart. So that I make these changes in my life and hear you say this type of statement towards me.”

God spoke to me and asked me this question. “What is my heart?” I stopped and ran to my computer. Did a word search for “heart of God”. My search found nothing other than the scriptures about David. Having done other searches, I found nothing. I came back to God and said, “I do not see anything about what your heart is. Please explain.” God spoke this word so plan to me. “John 3:16″ I begin to quote the scripture out loud…”For God so loved the world…” I then stopped and fell to my knees and begin weeping.

David loved the heart of God. The people of the living God. This changed my thoughts on how I perceived David. God did not tell him to go fight Goliath. David went to fight him because there was a cause to save the people of the living God. David said, “for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:26

My prayers were then changed. “God help me to love your people as you love them. Let me see your people through YOUR eyes. Let me see the gifts and potential in them like you see them.”

I was also reminded of Jesus when he spoke about the commandments. Love the Lord thy God with all thy soul, mind, and strength. And the second is love thy neighbor as thyself. When you fall in love with Jesus, you can not help but love others. And when you love others as you love yourself… well think about it.. many of us put ourselves first before others. Yet, God is saying.. put others first above yourself.

He hearts desire is to please Him. Even if it means giving everything I got away to others.

Are you a man/woman after the heart of God?

Are you willing to die for your friends?

Are you willing to give what you have for others?

What does God say about you?
