Have you ever wondered how to pray? Have you ever thought, “Am I praying the right way?” Have you ever thought…”is God hearing me?” Have you prayed and seen your prayers change things? In this post, I would like to share a thought to consider.
Having heard a pastor share a testimony of his wife. He begin by saying that his wife got sick. And they didn’t really think it was anything bad, so she took some over the counter meds. As weeks and months went by, she begin getting worst. She went to the doctors and after doing test, they came back and said, “We can not find anything wrong with you.” They would bring her name up for a prayer request before the church. Many times she would come to the altar for prayer in hopes that healing would be brought into her body.
After the church would pray, this pastor’s wife would then get better for a little bit. Until after some time would pass, she begin to get sick again. This time it seems to get worst. She started staying home from church as this sickness would get really bad. Causing her not to be able to do diligence with her motherly duties around the house. She would go and see other doctors, thinking that someone could and would find out what is really going on with her body.
On a Tuesday morning, this pastor walked into the church to pick something up from his office and he heard prayer going on in the church. Remembering this was women’s prayer meeting, he stopped to listen to the prayers of these women. After listening for a few minutes, he got angry and bursted into the room and stopped the prayer meeting.
These ladies were praying for the pastor’s wife. They were praying that she would get sick until she took off her wedding band. All because someone in that meeting felt a conviction against wearing wedding bands. So these women gathered and agreed to pray this same prayer. After the pastor addressed this and explained to these ladies, what they were doing was “witchcraft type of prayers”. This pastor’s wife then got better and had no other issues with her health.
So what is the difference between “witchcraft prayers” verses the right prayers?
Witchcraft prayers are prayers that portray your desires and your will. Many people pray these types of prayers, not really knowing what they are doing. Praying prayers like, “God make this person fall in love with me.” “God, speak to this person and tell them …..” “God make this person do this”
Real prayers are those that reach out to God and ask God, “What is your will? How do you want me to pray? God, I ask that your will be done in this situation. Give me wisdom on how to handle this.” So you see, it is not using our prayers for what WE want, it is prayers for what HE wants. In other words, it is God’s will for people to receive healing. So praying for a person’s healing is in His will. It is the will of God for a person to be saved. We can read this in the word of God. So anything that is towards the will of God, it the right way to pray.
Having heard someone else’s prayers, this person begin praying that a person that was their enemy, that has came against them, that they would die. The Bible stated for when we pray for our enemy, to love them, and bless them. It is the will of God that we bless others. Encourage them. Build them. So who are you to place judgement on a man, to over power that man’s will? Or be God over them to place judgement in their life just because they are not allowing you to have your desire or your will to flourish and that person is stopping you from being happy.
Are you praying your will?
Are you praying what you want?
Are you speaking your desires or God’s?
Be careful not to pray against God’s will.
Pray the will of God.
What is the will of God for you?
